Derek Joyce scorches into the lead

In only his second year at Duathlon Derek Joyce Galway Bay CC has cracked the code for winning a Duathlon, the renown cyclist has finally got to grips with the two discipline sport, normally a strong runner and average cyclist win the events but Derek has knuckled down with his training regime to win his first event in Galway at the HurtLocker Duathlon Barna. 

John Gill Hollymount wheelers also has come to grips with the change overs with another fine result coming home 2nd with Galway Triathlete Conor Gath rounding of the podium in Barna. 

In the ladies category Barbara Dunne The Hurtlocker lead from start to finish with an outstanding performance, 2nd home was a another Hollymount Wheeler Sara Canny and third was Katie Devin Galway Tri.

With 8 rounds now completed the overall is taking shape, Derek Joyce has a commanding lead over Ray Mc Namara Liquid Motion Ballina with Paul Joyce Tri Lakes TC, John Gill Hollymount Wheelers, Jimmy Lawlor Multisport AM Westport and Declan Donnellan Liquid Motion all in hot pursuit. With the best 7 results out of 9 to count the overall is still not finalized till everyone is finished in Ashford Cong on May 5th 

In the ladies category Lydna Hesssion Hollymount Wheelers is the only woman to complete all 8 events, Nicola Forde Liquid motion is only a few points behind and has the chance to take the win overall in round 9 if she finishes ahead of the Hollymount woman.  Alot will depend if the likes of Grainne Kennedy Multidport AM, Yvonne Byrne Westport leisure park, Ericka Murray Sligo Tri, Carol King  & Colette Sweeney Westport Leisure park, Joanne Boyle The Hurtlocker, Michelle Reynolds Liquid Motion and Susanne O Beirne Lough Key Tri still  have a great chance of upsetting the overall score board  if they score highly in round 9.
