Give your fitness a boost with the Land of The Giants Christmas Duathlon.

The third annual Land of the Giants Christmas Duathlon will be staged in Claremorris on December the 27th. The event has grown in popularity with participants using it as a means to burn up excess calories that get devoured over the Christmas period and meet folk that they might not have met in a while.

The event is open to all abilities, finish times are not important but for some of the leading athletes they use it as a benchmark to get themselves ready for the coming season. You can sign up at www.raceface.ie.

Last year young Westport International Triathlete Aichlinn O’ Reilly showed a clean pair of heels to a high class senior field and Spiddle’s Marie Boyle set a blistering pace to take the ladies title. Can they hold on to their titles this year?

The run/bike/run event will start and finish at the Square in Claremorris town. Sign on is at the Square from 8.30am and the race will start at 11 am. Participants will take up the whole road on their way to Mc Mahon Park.

This year there is also a relay option; the runner does the two runs and the cyclist does the 18k bike leg.

With a whole host of prizes there is something for everyone to be cheerful including spot, fancy dress and team prizes.

The town is decorated with lights and trees and when the participants get togged out in their respective club colours it makes for a real colour fest.

If you have never done a Duathlon before don’t worry as you won’t be the only one because completing the course is a fantastic achievement (while having a laugh!).

Sponsors of the event are Future Insurance brokers, The McWilliam Park Hotel, Flynn’s Pharmacy, Waldron &Associates Architects and Dixon & Dever project development services and Colette Jordan and Associates Architectural Engineering & Energy Consulting.

Claremorris leisure centre will provide the showers after the event.

The event is being supported by Claremorris chamber of commerce, McMahon Park Committee, Mayo County Council, Road Safety Authority and Claremorris Cycling club.

You sign up online now at www.raceface.ie, we look forward to seeing you at the event.
