Wild Mayo Ultra – New Routes, New Horizons for 2026

After five years of the same iconic routes, Wild Mayo Ultra is turning the page. Mayo is a big county with a lot more to offer than one loop, so for 2026 we’ve opened the map, shifted the lines, and built a set of routes that showcase the rest of this rugged, spectacular county. New scenery, new climbs, new challenges — but the same Wild Mayo spirit.

Whether you’re chasing an ultra-distance milestone or testing yourself over a sharper 100 km effort, each route brings something different. “Ultra cycling is just you against the route and the clock” what’s not to love… Get signed up and be on the start line for May 9th

100K – The Fast Testpiece

This is our short-distance addition for riders who want a clean, intense benchmark. It’s quick, it’s honest, and it gives you a proper taste of Ultra and Mayo without burying you.

What to expect:

  • Rolling farmland & lakeside backroads around Partry and Tourmakeady
  • The new Lally’s Mountain climb — steep, scenic, and a true sting.
  • A fast run-in back from Achill to Westport on smooth, flowing roads
  • Perfect for first-timers, strong club riders, Triathletes, or those chasing an official 100K time

Nothing excessive — just pure, controlled effort on open, scenic terrain.

200K – A Wild Mayo Challenge

The 200K keeps the heart of Wild Mayo Ultra alive. This is the traditional middle-distance challenge: a big day out, varied terrain, and the kind of scenery that punches above its weight.

Route character:

  • Lake District touring – Lough Mask, Carra, and Conn all make an appearance
  • Coastal exposure along Clew Bay’s hidden lanes
  • Climbs you’ll feel but not fear, with the perfect balance of grind and reward
  • Rugged backroads that define the West of Ireland riding experience

A proper endurance challenge — tough enough to earn your finish, balanced enough to attract a wide range of riders.

300K – The Wild Mayo Experience

This route stays closest to the traditional Wild Mayo Ultra layout, but with smart adjustments that tie in some of Mayo’s most atmospheric regions. It’s a complete county experience — mountains, bogs, bays, and long empty valleys.

Route features:

  • Big open boglands stretching from Ballycroy to Bangor Erris
  • Remote coastal roads with nothing but the Atlantic on your shoulder
  • The classic Keem Bay descent — still one of the most scenic stretches in Ireland
  • A full day of shifting terrain, from exposed uplands to winding farmland lanes

300K is long enough to feel monumental but still achievable for experienced endurance riders.

400K – The WILD Mayo Border Loop

This is the crown jewel of the 2026 updates. A fresh line that loops around the full Mayo border, stitching together terrain that even locals rarely see. It’s raw, wild, and immersive — a route that will go down as a true Irish ultra-distance classic.

What sets it apart:

  • A full circumnavigation of Mayo — a county-sized challenge
  • New sectors in South and East Mayo, bringing added variety and rhythm
  • The vast North Mayo coastline, exposed, windswept, and unforgettable
  • Long, empty roads where you’ll feel the size of the county in your legs
  • Achill & Keem Bay, still included, still jaw-dropping
  • Lally’s Mountain, an early taste of the climbing to come

This route isn’t just long — it’s meaningful. It frames Mayo the way it deserves to be seen: wild, proud, and huge.
