The Ashford Duathlon hosted by Cunga Cycling & Triathlon club hosted round four of the IWDS which saw more names being added to the series. Nearly 500 participants have now taken part in one or more rounds, a brilliant achievement for a league in its first year.
The Cong event had nearly 120 participants, who took in the beautiful route of the Ashford Castle grounds making it one of the most scenic courses in the country.
The Ashford Duathlon had the distinction of been part of the National Duathlon series also, this attracted some of the best athletes in the country with the likes of Eamon Mc Andrew (Mouse) Sligo Tri (who has a sub 9 hr Ironman!) and John Greaney of Hurt Locker Galway another top runner and triathlete, and Eamonn Staunton of Westport Triathlon Club who is new to Duathlon but has shown a serious pedigree by winning Rd 1 of the National Series in Naas back in January. These were only some of the big names taking part.
Ireland West Duathlon Series Leader Brendan Conway of Westport Triathlon Club showed that he is still holding his form with a solid 4th place on the day to consolidate his lead.
Lorraine Carey of Liquid Motion in Ballina took a comfortable win in the ladies race to keep her in the top spot for ladies section.
The series is sponsored by Marrey Bikes, Ballinrobe.
The prize presentation for the series takes place on Friday March 25th at 7 pm at Marrey Bikes in Ballinrobe when the infamous Stephen Roche will officially open the premises at 6 pm earlier that evening.
