Ireland West Duathlon report 2020 with full category breakdown.

The 2020 Bridge Signs Ireland West Duathlon Series had another great year with over 400 participants taking part in one or more events, it was also the most competitive yet with the last event deciding who the winners would be in the male and female categories.

Considering the weather we had we were lucky to get the series completed before this dreaded Covid-19 virus took hold so all we can do is thank our lucky stars that we had at least 4 good events to have a go and take part in,  as of now it will be a while before any event will be held.  That’s why its always important remember to Get up, Show up and never Give up… 

The male category was a tie with Killian Dooley Galway City Harriers and Darren Quinn Grainne Uaile Tri club Newport were inseparable. It was such a tight battle that even on count back it would be unfair to separate them. 

The Female category was equally as tight with Mary Corless Tri Lakes TC holding a slender few points advantage over Edel Reilly Hollymount Wheelers. The Ballinrobe course probably suited Edel with over 8k of running versus only 17k on the bike. When Edel pulled out a big advantage after the first run it looked to be going her way but a storming cycle leg by Mary had her back in the lead with only the last 3.8k run to go, a huge effort by Edel in the last run not only seen her take the lead  in the last event but opening a big gap passing a number of runners to give her enough points to take the win on the day and the win in the series..

With unplaced category prizes up for grabs the competition was tight all the way through the field. The only category with small numbers was the under 18 section and this seems to be a worrying trend.
