Gravel Grind West 2025 – Event Report

The 2025 edition of Gravel Grind West was a resounding success, with over 300 participants taking to the start line. Riders came from every county in Ireland, and we were especially delighted to welcome an impressive number of international competitors, highlighting the event’s growing reputation on the global gravel cycling calendar.

The atmosphere at the start line was electric, thanks in no small part to the presence of some exceptional riders. Among them was Tour de Femme rider Fiona Mangan, whose participation brought an added level of excitement and inspiration to the field. We were also honoured to host the current Irish National Gravel Champion and former professional cyclist Stephen Clancy. Stephen, well-known not only for his cycling achievements but also for his advocacy for athletes living with diabetes, gave the event an added dimension of inclusivity and representation.

The route once again showcased the breathtaking beauty of the West of Ireland, with riders tackling rugged gravel tracks, bog tracks, rolling hills, and sweeping lake views while passing old Abbies, churches and period houses. The route design featured the Bowers way, Srah Loop, Killawalia, Clogher, and Moorehal loop walks which are all part of the Lost Treasure Trail.

Despite the challenging terrain, spirits were high throughout, with camaraderie and determination shining through among seasoned racers and enthusiastic first-timers alike.

With such strong participation and the support of both local and international cycling communities, Gravel Grind West continues to establish itself as one of Ireland’s premier gravel cycling events. The organising team is incredibly proud of the turnout and atmosphere and extends heartfelt thanks to all riders, supporters, and volunteers who made the day unforgettable.

Special thanks to Supermacs for sponsoring the post event refreshments, to Johno’s bar for hosting the finish and to Marrey bikes for hosting the start.

We look forward to building on this year’s success and welcoming even more riders to the Ballinrobe area for next year’s event, for what promises to be another unforgettable adventure.
