Ever tried a gravel event?

Want to discover a place in a completely different way… maybe even your own local area?

That’s what gravel riding is all about. It takes you away from busy roads and onto quiet tracks, trails and boreens. The pace is more relaxed, the traffic disappears, and you get the chance to slow down and enjoy the journey.

On 23rd August, step back in time at Gravel Grind West, an off-road cycling adventure starting and finishing in Ballinrobe.

This isn’t just another gravel event. The routes follow ancient roads and forgotten trails, including the Long Lost Trail, paths that have connected people, places and stories for centuries. Parts of the route also wind through the spectacular Joyce Country & Western Lakes Geopark, but that’s only part of the experience.

Ballinrobe and its surrounding countryside are rich in history. Ride past ancient abbeys, historic courthouses, famine hospitals, old mills, period houses, canals, forests and bogland. Wander through the Bowers Walk, take in the crystal waters of Lough Carra and the vast beauty of Lough Mask, and experience landscapes that will stay with you long after the ride is over.

Want to follow in the footsteps of monks and explore one of Ireland’s most fascinating regions on two wheels? Choose from the 65km very doable for some one new to gravel cycling or 100km route and discover why gravel cycling is about so much more than the bike. Grab a mountain bike or gravel bike( hybrid or a bike with wider tyres)

The event is supported by Mc Hales – Supermacs – Nuasan – Tyre R Us – Johno’s bar – Coillte- Cycling Connacht – Coillte, Mayo Co Co – Cycling Ireland and Raceface events
