After three hard fought duathlon rounds, Westport Triathlon Club athlete Brendan Conway extends his lead at the top of the leader board of the Ireland West Duathlon series.
The 5 round series has really caught the attention of runners and cyclist with well over 400 athletes taking part in the first 3 rounds.
Marrey Bikes, the main sponsors of the series had the pleasure of seeing nearly 300 participants visit its new super store premises at the Ballinrobe round recently.
In the ladies category, Ballina’s Lorraine Carey is keeping the pressure not only on the women but the men as well as she lies in 4th overall.
In the category sections, Colette Sweeney of Multisport Leisure Park Westport leads the way in the ladies over 40.
Darragh Delaney of Annagh Wheelers leads the mens over 40 and is poised to finish in the top ten.
In the Over 50 ladies, Cathy Regan from Tubbercurry leads the way.
In the mens over 50 Achill cycling club member Sean Lyons has the lead
The junior male leader is Sean Maguire and the junior female leader is Eimear Harrison of Westport Covey Wheelers.
The leading team of 5 athletes will be announced shortly.
With 2 rounds to go in the series anything can happen, one puncture or a mishap.
The next round, round 4 will be held in Cong on March 5th. Remember it is a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned event so abide by TI rules. You also need a Triathlon Ireland licence or one day licence.
The last round will be held in Castlebar on March 19th on a new flat but longer course.
